COUNSELLING
WHAT HAPPENS IN COUNSELLING?
We’ll look at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how they are impacting your life.
We’ll look at your story. Your story matters, but you are not defined by it.
We look at what a meaningful life is to you. Not what someone else told you should be meaningful - but what you think is.
Practical and Relevant Tools. Tools aren’t everything. But they can help, and I want to make sure you have the ones you need.
We’ll spend some time focusing on what's right with your life as well as what’s not going well - a holistic picture is important.
Culture. It’s not just you, it’s what we’re surrounded by.
The Body Keeps the Score. Acknowledging and healing the emotions/parts held in the body is really powerful. If you’re keen on that, we’ll definitely do some of that work.
WHAT ELSE cAN I EXPECT?
The Truth. I will gently challenge you to tell yourself (and me) the truth. You have your own answers and your own wisdom. My job is to help you unravel it.
Support, Encouragement, Empathy and Understanding. I want to support you in the best way possible as you move forward.
Insights. A big part of the process is to gain insights about where you’re at, and how you got there.
Setting Intentions/Collaboration. It’s important to set out what you want from the process so you know you’re working toward something. I’ll check in with you regularly to make sure we’re going in the direction you want to go.
Discretion and Confidentiality. This is a very big deal to me. Any/all of the work we do is confidential. The fact that you are a client at all is confidential. There is nothing to be ashamed of in seeing me but I also think it should remain private, and it does.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING: Our relationship with ourselves is the most important one we’ll ever have. Yet, it’s the one we spend the least time thinking about. Sometimes people want a longer process, to really unravel where unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours are stemming from - and then work toward changing them.
Others don’t want a long process, but instead are looking for shorter term relief - as in how do I deal with these symptoms I’m experiencing?
I’ll ask you at the beginning what you’re looking for and we’ll go from there. If you don’t know, that’s. okay. We’ll figure it out together. A collaborative relationship is important for actual results.
It’s best to have a chat and develop an approach that’s right for you,
so just get in touch and we can do that.
